Genus Inverters: A Review

Updated: Feb 17, 2020

Genus inverters are made by an Indian alternative power solution company. They make a wide range of inverters, batteries and solar chargers. They are distributed in Nigeria by Simba Industries.

General Description And Features

  1. All Genus inverters are pure sine wave inverters. Learn about the differences between pure and modified sine wave inverters here.

  2. Like all pure sine wave inverters, appliances do not run with a continuous buzzing or humming sound.

  3. Genus inverters have UPS capabilities. Thus they are able to switch without the appliances turning off.

  4. They have battery protection features that protect the batteries from over-charge, deep-discharge and short-circuiting when the terminals are not properly placed during installation or during use.

  5. They also have technologies that protect appliances that use them from damage.

  6. Genus inverters with higher output capacities come with cooling fans to ensure that the inverters do not exceed maximum temperature safety limits.

  7. They can be charged with either grid power or standby generators. Their solar inverters are charged with solar panels.

  8. They are compatible with all types of batteries.

  9. Genus Inverters & UPS can support a wide range of voltage from 100V to 280V

  10. Genus inverters have cooling fans that help regulate the temperature of the inverter to prevent overheating.

  11. Genus inverters have graphical LED and LCD displays for monitoring battery charge, mains status, charging mode, etc.

  12. They also come with audible alarms that warn the users of overload, charging state, etc.

Product Range, Features and Specifications

Genus has a range of battery-based inverters and solar inverters.

1.1 Proton Q

  • The inverters in this range are pure sine wave inverters.

  • They are UPS capabilities meaning that appliances stay on even after a grid power outage.

  • The inverters in this range include the Proton Q + 700, Proton Q + 900, Proton Q + 1450/1500/1650, Proton Q + 2000, Proton Q + 2500

  • In case of overload, they reset automatically to turn on again. The system retries for 6 times to run the existing load, giving the user repeated alarms and enough time to reduce the load without having to shut down the system.

  • Though they are made for home use, they can be used for office and factory appliances.

  • They have a dual UPS MODE/WIDE UPS MODE. The two-way selection switch gives users the option of selecting the system mode.

1.2 Proton K

  • The inverters in this range are pure sine wave inverters. Read why pure sine waves are safer for appliances here.

  • They can be charged by even lower voltages.

  • They are UPS capabilities meaning that appliances stay on even after a grid power outage. In the event of a power failure, the switch over process to battery mode takes a fraction of second and ensures connected appliances like computers keep getting uninterrupted power without the systems rebooting due to a power failure.

  • The inverters in this range include the Proton K + 750, Proton K + 950 and Proton K + 1150.

  • They have overload and short-circuit protection capabilities. In case of overload, they reset automatically to turn on again. The system retries for 6 times to run the existing load, giving the user repeated alarms and enough time to reduce the load without having to shut down the system.

  • Though they are made for home use, they can be used for office and factory appliances.

  • They come with transformers. Read about transformerless inverters here.

1.3 Thunder X

The Thunder X is an upgrade on the Proton series. They come with a more complex design. Users can select the input charging 5A, 8A, 12A, or 15A as per battery installed and load requirements.

2. SOLAR INVERTERS

2.1 Surja

  • Inverters in this series are hybrid solar inverters. They can be charged with solar panels, grid power or generators. They can also be used as deep cycle inverters or off-grid solar. However, they give preference to solar.

  • They come with 30A in-built PMW charge controllers.

  • Their output waveform is the pure sine wave.

  • They also have graphical LED display which provides the user all information regarding solar status, charging from solar, remedial actions needed, battery level, load level etc.

  • Inverters in this range include Surja + 700, Surja + 900, Surja + 1500, Surja + 2500, Surja + 3500, Surja + 5000 and the Surja + 10000.

2.2 Sunport

  • The Sunport is a high capacity hybrid solar inverter. It can be charged with solar panels, grid power or generators. It can also be used as deep cycle inverters or off-grid solar. However, it is built to give preference to solar.

  • It comes with an in-built MPPT charge controller. Read all about charge controllers here.

  • Its output waveform is the pure sine wave.

  • It also has graphical LED display which provides the user all information regarding solar status, charging from solar, remedial actions needed, battery level, load level etc.

  • It is built to work under very rugged conditions.

2.3 GridStar

  • The gridstar is a high capacity full hybrid inverter.

  • It comes with a 3.5 inch LCD screen that shows the performance of inverter at real time such as DC input voltage, output voltage and current, units of electricity being made etc.

  • It also has audible alarms.

  • Gridstar can be connected through Web Server, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Android applications to access all information related to the functioning of your solar power system such as Realtime generations, Data logs, past history etc. This can be accessed at any time.
